10. Becoming Big Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3)

This was probably the worst kept secret in the game, as it was highly unlikely that this version of Snake was the same that appeared in the two previous games; but that doesn't take away from how badass this moment truly is. It all comes down to the delivery of the scene; for the entirety of the game you were trying to take down your former mentor The Boss, who has defected and is now working for the Russians. Except it turns out that she hasn't defected and this was all a ruse to get information on The Patriots - with The Boss always intending to lose to Naked Snake for the sake of the country. This revelation is quite jaw-dropping in itself, but the fact that you realised you were playing the back story of Big Boss and the events that led to his formation of FOXHOUND was a fantastic way of tying all the games together and showed how much care and attention Kojima pours into this franchise. It's a beautifully directed cutscene and the moment Snake is revealed to be wearing Big Boss' iconic eyepatch was enough to bring a smile to the most cynical of gamers.
