10 Beautiful Video Game Songs

5. Assassin's Creed 2 - Venice Rooftops

Assassin's Creed 2 had a plethora of things that made it a brilliant game, and the soundtrack was one of them. The music focused on the feeling of openness brought by free-running across the towns and cities of renaissance Italy.

Ezio's Family is another beautiful track - it's operatic, rising and falling with each beat, but it doesn't quite capture the series as a whole in the way that Venice Rooftops does. Where Ezio's Family fixates on the dark undertones of Assassin's Creed 2, bringing the theme of revenge into musical form, Venice Rooftops seeks to push the pace of the game.

Fast-paced drums and a mix of acoustic and electric guitars set the tone for this piece of music that feels almost as freeing as the thought of leaping from building to building. The violins add to the soaring melody, with their high notes seeming to hint of screeching birds, and making the whole piece feels like a musical chase scene.

Towards the end, the track slows down, with a solo violin taking over to indicate the end of the pursuit. However, it continues to follow the main core of the track, indicating to the player that the chase will soon resume.

They don't let me write here anymore. I think they were put off by my handlebar moustache.
