10 Beloved Franchises That Haven't Been Good In A WHILE
7. Far Cry
Unlike most entries on this list, there isn't a defining moment where Far Cry became, for lack of a better word, "bad". But there's no question Ubisoft's brand has gone south.
Up until Far Cry 3, the survivalist shooter was an industry juggernaut. But almost every followup since has had a subtle but noticeable drop in quality.
Despite Far Cry 4's bluster and bombastic action, it was a serviceable continuation, nothing more. FC Primal's spin-off was a nice departure but a considerable distance from what came before. When the sequels failed to raise the bar, it was clear the once unstoppable IP had seen better days.
Players seem to be aware of Far Cry's downward spiral, since the most recent instalment made half the digital sales of its predecessor in the UK. This setback didn't stop Far Cry from making serious bank overall, but the fanbase could turn on it completely unless the property receives a major shake-up.
With rumours circulating that Far Cry 7 will take things in a new bold direction, let's hope the iconic FPS return to its former glory. But based on what we've experienced over the last decade, nobody should hold their breath.
