10 Beloved Franchises That Haven't Been Good In A WHILE
8. Star Fox
It looks rudimentary by today's standards, but Star Fox's polygonal graphics were revolutionary. The SNES classic was so ahead of its time, it didn't seem possible for its successor to surpass it.
And yet, Star Fox 64 cranked everything up to another level (except the voice-acting.) The Thunderbirds-inspired shooter boasted beautiful levels, diverse missions, masterful gameplay, catchy tunes, and epic boss fights. And with multiple routes to take, the N64 launch title had tons of replay value.
And when promotions for Star Fox Adventures were released, it seemed like a guaranteed hit. But since this follow-up started off as a separate entity called Dinosaur Planet, it barely felt like Star Fox. As disappointing as it was, it was nothing that couldn't be fixed with a traditional sequel.
But that was easier said than done. Star Fox Assault and Star Fox Command were generic as they come, to the point where it's a wonder why Nintendo even made them.
However, the future seemed bright when Star Fox Zero was teased, since it captured the dynamic and fluid action of its predecessors. Sure, Zero had a few bright spots, but it was let down by its dreadful control system and uncreative gameplay.
Even though the Switch has been dominating for eight years, Nintendo have never strongly considered releasing a new Star Fox. Fingers crossed the Star Fox we know and love returns on the Switch 2.
