10 Beloved Video Games That Left A Horrible First Impression
4. Mass Effect
Establishing one of the most iconic gaming universes isn't easy, and unfortunately, the introduction to the first Mass Effect suffers from the developers trying to cram too much content into the title's opening hours.
Within these first hours or so, as Commander Shepard you've already been given a prophetic vision of the future, blasted your way through an awkward opening skirmish and been forced to abide by the politics of the alien council while exploring the Citadel.
While it's important to open your blockbuster game in an explosive way, perhaps throwing you straight into the action wasn't Mass Effect's smartest decision.
By doing this it meant that the only real breather came once you left the tutorial planet for the Citadel, and even that location, with its wealth of side-missions and sub-plots to attend to, made for an awfully dull box-ticking experience before you were eventually allowed to set off and explore the galaxy.
