10 Beloved Video Games You Forgot Never Got Sequels
5. Vanquish
In the cover-shooting stagnation-fest that is the modern third person shooter, Vanquish appeared seemingly out of nowhere to inject a much needed adrenaline shot directly to the heart of the genre, creating an experience that was fast, brutal, but most importantly satisfying. Unlike the heavy and weighty Gears of War, Vanquish served as the direct antithesis, focusing much more on mobility and movement than it did on precise aiming and clinging to cover. Removing the super-serious tone and adopting a more arcade style, it was exactly the explosive kick-start the genre needed. Sadly, although critics raved about Vanquish, like Bayonetta before it, the game just didn't instantly connect with a commercial audience. Now that its had a few years out in the wild more and more people look back on Vanquish as an amazing game, but it doesn't lessen the fact that it was tragically overlooked at the time. Lets hope that it shares more than just commercial similarities with Bayonetta and also receive the sequel it deserves, even if it's published by Nintendo.
