10 Best 2019 Video Games You're Not Playing

3. Gato Roboto

A charming-as-hell Metroidvania with a cat protagonist, Gato Roboto will likely fly completely under the radar for the majority of the year, thanks to its unassuming look and genre-dependent design.

That latter element is to say: This is a Metroidvania-ass Metroidvania.

You'll explore a map, one square at a time. You'll come up against very notable, weapon/item-based environmental roadblocks, knowing you're not supposed to get further yet, prompting you to explore and find an alternative path.

Still, this is one of gaming's most dependant templates for a reason, and from Ori & the Blind Forest to Hollow Knight to The Mummy: Demastered (yes, really), Gato Roboto joins this generation's best offerings with ease.

Plus... the game essentially treats Kiki the cat as Samus' ball form from Metroid itself. It's an excuse to scurry through tight spaces and find better suit upgrades, only to indulge in the hilarity of a tiny cat head poking out the top of a destructive mech body.
