10 Best Apocalyptic Video Games That DON'T Involve Zombies

1. Fallout: New Vegas

Death Stranding
Bethesda

Let's be honest: almost any of the modern Fallout games could have made their way onto this list, Fallout 76 notwithstanding. The series is beloved by fans worldwide and stands tall as one of the overall best RPG offerings in the industry, not just within the apocalyptic genre. However, Fallout: New Vegas is still widely regarded as the best of the bunch, despite now being more than a decade old.

The depiction of post-nuclear apocalypse Las Vegas, now New Vegas, is easily the best realised of any of the series’ real-world settings, and the desert wastelands of the western USA traversed by the player in a quest to locate their would-be killer further reinforce the atmosphere. The depth of RPG content in New Vegas, with extensive questlines, character interactions, customisation, and crafting not only successfully realises the world, but provides hours upon hours of options gameplay, most of which is rewarding to explore.

There’s a reason Fallout: New Vegas in particular has maintained such a huge cult following: it’s simply the best of the best. Every Fallout game is more than worth playing if you're a fan of the genre, but perhaps save this one for last, like we did with this list, lest every other game pale in comparison.
