8. Mario Superstar Baseball

With a foot in multiple other major sports, it was only a matter of time before Mario took a swing at baseball. Somehow, no matter what the sport may be, Mario just always has a grasp on it as well.

The main draw from Mario Superstar Baseball was its challenge mode, which was essentially just its "season" mode but had a surprising amount of depth to it. In proper Mario fashion, you compete in a cup against multiple other teams led by Mario heroes and villains, eventually facing off against Bowser. Along the way, you would recruit players, captains and second captains from teams you beat, in turn beefing up your team to take on Bowser. Going from a team led by Mario and featuring nothing but minor characters to a team featuring the whole Mario Party gang felt beyond satisfying.

The game itself also played exceptionally well. At no point while playing the game did it feel like Nintendo just tacked Mario's name onto a weak baseball game. You could tell there was time and effort put into the game. Which is truly no surprise because almost all Mario sports games come out playing better than the last. Over time, if Nintendo has been able to prove anything, it's that you don't need an MLB license to put out a good, fun and addictive baseball game.
