Everyone should get their own Otacon in life. 

The most prominent support character throughout the Metal Gear Solid franchise is an all-timer ride-or-die homie, whose friendship with Solid Snake was forged through pissed pants and solidified with just about everything else they've been through together.

Hal "Otacon" Emmerich isn't just invaluable tech support to Snake across the series - he also provides much-needed emotional aid through his oft-amusing codec calls, in turn helping tease out Snake's inner humanity.

Conversely, Snake is basically Otacon's sworn protector, while his more brash demeanour helps Otacon inch out of his reserved, introverted shell a little.

And away from all the espionage and world-saving mayhem, they even serve as glorified co-parents to Otacon's adopter daughter Sunny. 

There's nothing these two wouldn't do for each other, and by the end of Metal Gear Solid 4 it's a damn relief to see them finally get a measure of peace.
