10 Best Gaming Reboots Ever
1. Fallout 3
Fallout 3 is the absolute best example of a successful reboot, taking the world and lore of the previous games, then completely reworking it in a brand new gameplay style, while elevating the franchise to new heights.
Fallout 1 and 2 were isometric RPGs with turn-based combat, and were very well-received. However, 2 came out in 1998, and a mainline sequel wasn't created until Bethesda acquired the rights to the series.
They decided to change things up significantly, with the isometric view now in first person, and turn-based combat morphing into real-time shooting with "V.A.T.S." letting you pause and nail specific shots. Placing players in a open-world map of nuclear-ridden Washington DC, you were simply trying to find your dad, who is played by Liam Neeson of all people.
The game took off, propelling Fallout into a household name and further solidifying Bethesda as a top name in the video game industry. If any other developers needed a lesson on how to properly reboot a franchise, they should definitely take a few notes from Fallout 3.
