10 Best Lead Voice Acting Performances In Video Games

10. Michael Ironside - Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell)

Splinter Cell chaos theory
Ubisoft

One of the most iconic of gaming's first wave of notable voice talent, Michael Ironside's Sam Fisher quickly became the Xbox-backed alternative to David Hayter's Solid Snake.

Quite the loveable by-the-book kinda guy, Fisher wasn't adverse to breaking away from protocol if it was the right thing to do; his dark and sarcastic sense of humour rounding the character off nicely in the process.

With a comms team of Lambert and Grimsdottir on-hand to offer advice and deliver mission updates, there was always plenty of back n' forth between the three, successfully making it feel as though you were slap-bang in the middle of a Tom Clancy thriller. Then you had the chokehold interrogations; increasingly hilarious excuses to have Ironside and a random extra exchange a few words whilst he had them in a vice grip.

They peppered whatever "Stop the world-ending threat" mission goal at-hand with the perfect amount of levity, letting us see that Fisher was a steadfast professional who enjoyed his work - setting him up for the fall from grace we all then witnessed in Splinter Cell: Conviction.
