9. Batman: Arkham Shadow
When Batman: Arkham VR landed back in 2016, it was a mind-blowing novelty. You got to stand in the Batcave, stare at your own reflection in the Batsuit, and get psychologically terrorised by Scarecrow. But once the buzz wore off, it was clear - it wasn’t much of a game. What fans really wanted was a proper Arkham-style experience in VR.
Fast-forward to 2024, and that pipe dream has become a reality.
Arkham Shadow is a Quest 3 exclusive made by Camouflaj - the same team behind the surprisingly excellent Iron Man VR. This time around, you’re not just roleplaying Batman in cutscenes - you’re gliding across rooftops, grappling into vents, throwing punches, and actually playing like the World’s Greatest Detective.
Set between Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum, it sees a younger Bruce squaring off against a lesser-known villain, the Rat King, in a Gotham that’s smaller in scope but thick with atmosphere. Combat riffs on the free-flow style of the originals, but translated into motion-controlled VR - surprisingly fluid, if occasionally exhausting.
The voice cast is solid, the story leans into Batman’s identity crisis (of course), and it all looks surprisingly sharp for standalone hardware.
It’s not the biggest or boldest Arkham game, but it’s the most immersive - and that’s kind of the point. After years of waiting, Arkham Shadow finally gives fans a chance to wear the cowl and actually feel like Batman.
