6. The Blue Shell (Mario Kart)
You've blown past the competition, and now you're on the last lap, way ahead of anyone who could be a problem. You're a few feet away from the finish line when you hear beeping and see something flying towards you that stops you inches before victory. This is the nightmare that sticks in Mario Kart player's heads.
The Blue Shell is the weapon that makes you want to stay in second place. Or maybe even seventh. You can pull this item from a box at any point as everyone (minus who’s in first place) can get it. Once thrown, this thing goes past all the other racers and aims for whoever was in the first place at the point of activation. Then, it moves in for the kill.
The Blue Shell blows up whoever is in first and takes out anyone close by, as if that was you, most other racers then go speeding past.
The only real way to avoid it is to keep an eye out on the racers behind you and the second you see a Blue Shell, brake hard and let someone pass.
A small sacrifice to keep you in the lead once you've overtaken again... providing it doesn't hit you first.
