10 Best New Female Video Game Characters Of The Decade
1. Ellie - The Last Of Us
Clementine is just edged out by another young zombie slayer, but it wasn't really ever going to be anyone else. Some might still be unhappy with Ellie being a lesbian despite her coming out in 2014's Left Behind, but Ellie remains an legendary character from this decade, and The Last Of Us: Part II looks to be safe in her hands.
The Last Of Us is a blisteringly raw game, with Ellie's fellow protagonist Joel reeling from the sudden and shocking death of his daughter as the game opens. Initially, Ellie and Joel resent their pairing, but grow to forge a deep connection as the game rumbles on.
Ellie subverts her apparent position as damsel in distress while still being believably a child, albeit a child in a post apocalyptic world. Ellie is ferociously complicated, amazingly well drawn and like all great characters, defies expectations in realistic and absorbing ways.
Ellie will apparently grow even more complex in the sequel, with developers promising to torture rather than coddle her. Doesn't seem like she's in for the nicest time then, but it will certainly make for some intense gameplay.
