10 Best New Female Video Game Characters Of The Decade

5. Miranda Lawson - Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 is a game built on its characters, with pretty much every mission based around getting to know more about your crew, or helping them out of whatever jam they’re in.

Of course, since it’s Mass Effect, these are no ordinary jams. My daughter is a serial killer, my dad let his female crew's brains rot and kept them as pets, I want to kill a giant space worm... those are the sorts of things Mass Effect 2 deals with.

Like with Overwatch, there’s a range of characters which might be any given players’ favourites. For what it’s worth, big hitters Tali and Liara just miss out on this decade, debuting in 2008’s Mass Effect 1. Just like Tracer then, Miranda Lawson is a symbol of the newcomers in Mass Effect 2.

Along with the instantly forgettable Jacob, Miranda is given to you right at the start of the game. She represents Cerberus, and her own narrative of being a genetically engineered object by her father is unique and engaging. Her loyalty mission is good one in a great bunch, while Mass Effect 3 slightly rushes her conclusion.

As a representative of what makes ME2 great though, Miranda’s earned her place.
