10 Best New Female Video Game Characters Of The Decade
6. Elizabeth - BioShock: Infinite
Much like Chloe Price, Elizabeth features fairly heavily in her base game, then gets an even bigger role in a spin off, this time a DLC: Burial At Sea. Unlike Chloe though, Elizabeth is worthy of entry for both her turns, getting more and more layered throughout her existence.
From around halfway through BioShock: Infinite, Elizabeth is your sidekick in Columbia. Unlike most rescued damsels in gaming though, Elizabeth doesn't require your protection. In fact, she's an ally in battle, more likely to bail to out in a jam than wander into gunfire and fail your mission for you.
She's a compelling character, once a caged songbird now free to explore the world. Her confidence and passion for adventure only grows as the game goes on, providing a satisfying contrast to the grizzled, worn down Booker.
Burial At Sea gives her a reinvention, not least by taking advantage of BioShock's multiverse theory and transplanting her in Rapture, before the events of any of the games. With the DLC getting a noirish tone, Booker becomes a hard boiled detective, with Elizabeth suitably cast as a mysterious femme fatale. It felt like fan fiction in the best way and gave us even more Elizabeth.
