4. Ciri - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt
Eagle eyed players will be aware that Ciri gets a mention in various conversations and lore books in the previous two Witcher games, but it's not until The Witcher III: Wild Hunt where she actually makes an appearance. A long wait, but a helluva debut.
Ciri is playable for fractions of the game, including the initial tutorial to show you the ropes of gameplay. Though we do spend more time with Geralt, it's clear that Ciri is a driving force. Geralt's central story is all about finding Ciri, after all, though with all the side quests you'll spend a good chunk of time off on other errands too.
Though developers CD Projekt Red are firmly focussed on Cyberpunk 2077 right now, there's surely a fourth Witcher game coming, and we may get an even larger slice of playable time as Ciri. It's not easy to upstage Geralt, but Ciri definitely muscled in on his popularity.
Like Elizabeth with Booker, one of Ciri's biggest strengths is how she manages to offer a contrast to Geralt's style while still being an entertaining part of the game. The Witcher III could be the first entry in her legacy.
