10 Best Nintendo Switch Exclusives Of 2018
4. Kirby Star Allies
Like Mario and Link, Kirby is one of those Nintendo heroes often held to a higher standard. However, while Odyssey and Breath Of The Wild knocked it out of the park on the Switch, Star Allies had a slightly rockier landing on Nintendo’s newest console.
It’s still worthy of its place as the fourth best exclusive this year (and the tenth biggest seller on the console ever), but it’s not without its flaws. It’s almost laughably easy at times, to the point where it stops being fun. Also, as a 2D game (2.5, technically), multiplayer functionality is a little fiddly. If you’re not at the front of the pack, you’re just kind of... there.
Still, enough with all that. In single player it’s the usual childlike fun Kirby offers, as long as you can handle it being easy. Kirby is hardly Dark Souls in any case, so you won’t find many buying it for the challenge. The soundtrack is second to none this year too (OK, perhaps God of War). But still, it’s a fantastic part of the experience and makes Kirby Star Allies a must have for 2018.
