10 Best Nintendo Switch Exclusives Of 2018
5. Captain Toad: Treaure Tracker
The final Wii U port on the list, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is easily the best. Critics point to the fact it’s just a spin off from a Super Mario 3D World minigame, but there aren’t many better games to spin off from.
Like Super Mario, the levels consist of trying to go from point a to point b, collecting stars along the way. However, what separates Captain Toad from most games of this ilk is the rotating isometric map. If you want to get every coin, it’s not just a case of up down left right. They could be hidden underneath the level, or tucked away around the side.
This opens the level design so much more, and allows for more adventurous exploring. As for the Switch version specifically, it’s been updated with levels inspired by Super Mario Odyssey, which is a nice touch.
The game came about when the designers were trying to think of a way to eliminate jumping, making for a more challenging platform game. Add to that the idea to mix in the Rubik’s Cube mechanics from their childhoods, and you can see why this game is so whimsically fun.
