10 Best No. 4's In Gaming History
9. Gran Turismo 4
In the video spin-off of the "Best No.3's" article, one of the most common comments was "Wot, no Gran Turismo 3?" (or words to that effect).
Fret not, petrolheads - we didn't forget about PlayStation's greatest racing series. We just thought that GT 3 was trumped by its sequel, which remains a triumph of the Frasier Crane philosophy of video game design: "If less if more, just think how much more more will be".
Gran Turismo 4 isn't so much a love letter to automotive racing as an epic saga. After setting the stage with Gran Turismo 3, developers Polyphony Digital pushed the PS2 to its limits with the follow up. With over 50 tracks to race on and more than 700 cars to drive (each with their own unique handling model), all powered by the best graphics seen on Sony's system, GT 4 is a game of astonishing depth.
You may never see the end of it - after a hundred hours, my game completion percentage was still under the halfway mark - but if you have even the slightest amount of petrol flowing in your veins, exploring Gran Turismo 4's raceways is time very well spent.
