10 Best Open-World Games Of The 2010s (That AREN'T GTA)
2. Sleeping Dogs
Hong Kong never looked so pretty, or bloody, in United Front's Sleeping Dogs. Undercover police officer Wei Shen is tasked with infiltrating notorious Triad organisation, the Sun On Yee. The city of HK is smaller than much of the worlds featured on this list, but the fact it has managed to score this highly on the list should be telling of its quality.
The fighting is brutal and engaging, the city dazzling and fun to explore, but what's really the most surprising draw is the story. Shen becomes more and more conflicted as the story progresses, and the actions of both the police and triads become both understandable and condemnable.
It's a morally complex tale with genuinely compelling storytelling wrapped in a sandbox game where you can hit enemies with fish, and that is enough to warrant a high place on the list.
Sleeping Dogs has unfortunately never hit the same highs as its Liberty City or Los Santos-set counterparts, but that just means more people have the pleasure of going out and experiencing the game for themselves. It is absolutely deserving of attention, and rivals anything Rockstar have put out under the GTA empire.
