7. Milotic

Though most teams are filled with dual-type Pokemon because they are seen to have double the potential for advantage, single type Pokemon like Milotic can be useful too. Dual types may offer a few moves from a different moveset, but they also lead to extra flaws and weaknesses. Since it is solely a Water type, Milotic has a weakness to Grass and Electric Pokemon. However, it has weapons in its arsenal that allow it to deal with both of these. Through tutors or TMs Milotic is able to learn a number of Ice type moves to deal with Grass types, and as of Generation 5 it is able to learn the Ground type move 'Bulldoze' to offer resistance against Electric types. Milotic's strengths do not lie in attack, though, and it is an excellent Pokemon to include in any team built around defence and durability. It is able to use a number of protective moves such as Light Screen or Mirror Coat that can boost the longevity of its team-mates even after it is removed from the field. Milotic can also learn moves such as 'Hail' that inflict lasting damage on Pokemon as they are pelted with ice at the beginning of each turn. Milotic's main strength lies in its own Special Defence meaning it is able to soak up a ton of long-range damage whilst throwing up various barriers and effects to protect its team for the rest of the battle. If you like to battle by sacrificing one of your monsters early on in exchange for helping out the stats of the other five, Milotic would be an excellent choice.
