10 Best RPGs From 1990 - 1999

9. Ultima VII

Fallout 2
Origin Systems

Throughout the history of RPGs, there are few that are as highly regarded as the Ultima series. The highpoint of the series is often regarded to be Ultima VII. Released in 1992 to MS-DOS (and later SNES in 1994) Ultima VII is regarded by many as one of the best RPGs ever made.

There are many points that make Ultima VII deserve this title. Features such as mouse controls, Character AI and Branching dialogue trees may seem common now but they were a rare treat when this game was released. What truly made the game stand out though was the freedom it offered.

While you are in the Kingdom of Brittannia, there is a main quest and a number of side quests that you can take part in. Don't let this constrain you though, Ultima VII is a game that loves its freedom. Anything that isn’t nailed down can be moved and interacted with if you wish. Your character even has the ability to make food, weapons, and even play a variety of instruments.

This game is thought of as classic for a reason, games released today often don’t have as much choice as is offered here.
