10 Best Short Films Based On Video Games

3. Assassin's Creed: Embers (2011)

Nathan Fillion Drake Uncharted
Ubisoft

The final chapter in protagonist Ezio's life, Assassin's Creed: Embers caps off the story Ubisoft had been crafting over three games. The short film also introduces Shao Jun, who would get her own game in the Chronicles sub-series 3 years later.

A visually striking piece of animation, Embers shows Ezio as an old man having settled in Italy with Sofia Sartor following the events of Assassin's Creed: Revelations. This makes the film's emotional drive far more impactful, as chances are that the viewer has spent their time with Ezio at least over three games (potentially four if you count the DS game) and possibly also the other two short films centred on Ezio and his family: Lineage and Ascendance.

Filled with references to the games, Embers is a treasure trove for vigilant fans to watch and add to their collections, allowing a truly complete collection - from Ezio's birth in Assassin's Creed II, up until his old age in Embers
