6. The Rescue
As with many RPGs, there is a certain slice of life element that helps you to become invested in Fable. Part of that comes down to the fact that you can settle and have a family, and doing so means that you will eventually end up getting this quest.
As you can expect by being such a daring adventurer, your child ends up with a similar desire for dangerous deeds, and you soon find them to require rescue. You will encounter your spouse who gives you a letter from your daughter/son explaining that they have gone off to slay some Hobbes just like mummy/daddy, and it is up to you to go and rescue them.
While the mission is straightforward and lacking in any surprise, it is particularly relevant as it's easy to become invested in your child, and understand how your actions are what has led to this happening. Either you'll find this quest to be annoying - if you don't necessarily care for your kid - or a critical moment that proves your investment in your character's life.
Either way, it is one of the best examples of simple storytelling having a profound impact on your gaming experience.
