10 Best Skill-Check Bosses In Gaming History

4. Benedikta Harman (Final Fantasy XVI)

Alongside Sonic Frontiers, Final Fantasy XVI holds the distinction of being one of the easiest games on this list.

Anyone who's played an action game in the past five years should find FFXVI's relatively simplistic combat a doddle to master, but that doesn't mean the game isn't capable of entertaining even the most battle-hardened gaming veteran. Case in point: one Benedikta Harman.

Benedikta isn't the first boss in Final Fantasy XVI's gigantic menagerie of foes, but she is the first to offer a real test of the player's capabilities. In order to survive Ms. Harman's wind-based assault, you'll need to be at least passingly adept at each aspect of the game's basic combat - special attacks, dodging and Quick Time Events.

Some of you may be rolling your eyes at the mention of that last part, but those QTEs are actually why this boss battle makes the list. Final Fantasy XVI's bosses are the undisputed highlight of the game, and Benedikta is an early preview of the delights ahead.

There are several fist-pumpingly entertaining moments spread throughout this fight (including one of the best utterances of the f-word in the history of video games), and they're almost all kicked off by Quick Time Events.

QTEs may be divisive, but when they lead to this much adrenaline-infused joy, it's hard to argue against them.
