10 Best Synthwave Video Games You Need To Play

2. Katana Zero

Right, back to the violence and beats! Rounding out the trio of Devolver games is the currently-only Switch exclusive, Katana Zero.

A slick and stylish 2D hack and platformer, Katana Zero is the most recent game on this list. Following the adventures of the titular Zero, a katana-wielding mercenary, you are sent to assassinate various targets sent to you by your handlers. Fuelled by the mysterious drug Chronos, Zero is able to slow down time to deflect bullets and dodge fan blades.

And in typical Devolver fashion, it all goes a bit wonky about the halfway point, whilst both body count and scores continue to rack up. As also is par for the course with Devolver, KZ has a devilishly awesome synthwave soundtrack to join you for the ride.

Madcap, fast beats channel your blade skills through each level, whilst calmer, theremin-induced undertones play out as both story and your mind start to unravel...

Fans of Hotline Miami and Mother Russia Bleeds should already be all over this, or if you're a Switch owner looking for something different: here you are.
