10 Best Versions Of Iconic Video Games You Didn't Play
2. The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD - Wii U
When it was first revealed to the public, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was controversial. Some fans adored the cutesy style, whilst others rejected it and saw it as the wrong direction for the franchise. Despite this, critical praise for the game was high and in the ensuing years it has gone on to become a treasured entry in the series.
As Nintendo geared up to work on Breath of the Wild, experimenting with the Wii U took the form of porting over existing entries to the system.
Wind Waker HD took reportedly six months to develop and whilst it remains fairly faithful to the original game, the quality of life improvements are a thing of joy. Like the 3DS ports of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, Nintendo did their best to alleviate the clunkiness and menu navigation by dropping the game’s inventory onto the console’s second screen.
In order to speed things up in general, Link can now play a song that makes navigating the Great Sea much swifter and the dreaded late-game Triforce quest, which brought many gamers to the end of their patience, has been hugely improved.
Wind Waker’s cel-shaded art style may have turned some off at first but those that love it see it as timeless. With a fresh lick of HD paint, the game has never looked prettier than on the Wii U.
