10 Best Versions Of Iconic Video Games You Didn't Play
3. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - IOS And Android
When Sonic the Hedgehog 2 arrived it made video game sales history, breaking records and becoming the best selling game of 1992 by some sizable distance. As such, in the 30 years since its release, the game has seen numerous ports and inclusions in both Sonic and Mega Drive collections.
Unbelievably, the best version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is locked on mobile devices. Built from the ground up by diehard Blue Blur fans, this port features native wide-screen, smooth frame rate and leaderboards for those that want to test their speed-running skills.
There is no expense spared and the love for the original shines through. The Sonic & Knuckles lock-on mode Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is accounted for and better yet the port even replaces the infamous death pit in Mystic Cave Zone with a brand new level. The Hidden Palace Zone, that was cut from development, was finally real.
Development lead Christian “Taxman” Whitehead followed up his round of Sonic iOS and Android ports by fulfilling a dream and crafting a brand new adventure called Sonic Mania. Since Sonic Origins and it’s latest rerelease of this title is being handled internally at Sega, it’s unlikely that it will be quite the same as the iOS and Android version made by fans, for fans.
