6. New York - Spider-Man Series
Open world Spider-Man games which let you swing gracefully through the city of New York. Is there much more that really needs added to that?
New York City has seen multiple redesigns over the years as the Spider-Man series gets revisited, some good and some bad, but the open world aspect of the city and the game has always been highly appreciated features. The most recent redesign of the city for the PS4 exclusive Marvel's Spider-Man in 2018 uses the tremendous power of the PlayStation to bring the city to live with stunning details and recaptures of some of New York's top landmarks.
Side by side photos of real world New York and the New York featured in the game, while there are some minor differences in the exact detail and building placement, provide a near flawless recreation of Manhattan. While the player can seamlessly swing through the city to get to their destination, while watching the shadows rise and fall on the cities buildings, the addition of the New York City subway system as a fast travel system was also a creative feature.
The ability to go and see real world locations like Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building and the One World Trade Center as well as fictional Marvel locations like Avengers Tower, Dr Strange's house and the Wakandan Embassy make exploring the city an absolute joy.
And let's just all admit this now. The first thing we did as soon as we could free roam was get to the top of the tallest building and jump off. We don't know why we do it, but we do.
