10 Best Video Game Levels Of All Time

4. Shadow Moses Revisited - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIcl29j_s0o I knew from minute one that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was going to be enormously referential to the original MGS game, given that it was Solid Snake's swansong, but I certainly didn't expect this. Act 4 of the game begins with Snake having to travel back to Shadow Moses Island, the setting of the first MGS game, in order to stop Liquid Ocelot from stealing Metal Gear REX's ray-gun for his arsenal. It's an eerie, goosebump-raising experience returning to the very same Heliport we ventured through as Snake a decade earlier, and Hideo Kojima takes full advantage of our nostalgia, showing that the famous surveillance camera is still there, though it promptly crashes to the ground when Snake shows up. Snake ends up having to fight Crying Wolf on a battlefield akin to the Sniper Wolf fight from the first game, before taking on Vamp, and then finally partaking in the superb REX vs. RAY robot fight to end our visit to the island. It's one giant, dew-eyed trip that's a classic gaming moment for anyone who loved the original game. From the creepiness of seeing Shadow Moses frozen over and near-deserted, to the use of the haunting "The Best Is Yet To Come" theme from the original game, this is a level that gets everything right.
