2. Fez II

In 2012, indie game designer, Phil Fish, released the puzzle-platformed, Fez. The gaming community fell in love with the game, causing it to sell a million copies in 18 months - a colossal achievement for an indie. The following year, FEZ II was officially revealed during a press conference at E3. But only one month later, FEZ II was irreversibly terminated.

So, what happened? In a nutshell, the sequel was axed because of a tweet. If that sounds like an oversimplification, the full explanation isn't much better. You see, Fish was legendary for getting into volatile spats on Twitter. A month after FEZ II was announced, Braid creator, Jonathan Blow, tweeted Fish, asking what his thoughts were on a policy regarding the Xbox One. When Fish dismissed Blow's queries, journalist, Marcus Beer, criticised the FEZ creator on his show, Invisible Walls.

Fish was so furious with Beer's remarks, he cancelled FEZ II (only a month after it was revealed,) and quit the gaming industry entirely. However, Fish emphasised he was no longer making games because the industry was unfairly negative. This is a little ironic since he infamously stated that all Japanese games suck.
