10 Big Reasons To Revisit Red Dead Redemption
6. The Remarkably Touching Father/Son Relationship
It's interesting to note the father/son dynamic in GTA V and how it compares to Red Dead Redemption - specifically in regards to the contrasts between the protagonists.
Both men seek to reconcile with their estranged sons, but whereas John is genuinely invested in shaking off the remnants of his violent past, Michael fantasizes about escaping the drudgery of family life- even if that means putting them in the crosshairs.
Both characters are incapable of connecting with their sons on a number of levels, but at the end of day - Michael comes across as a self-absorbed hypocrite more concerned with his own well-being. He's the complete opposite of the selfless John Marston, who's only concern is keeping his son on the straight and narrow.
John may have done some horrendous things and although he doesn't always quite know how to navigate the murky waters of fatherhood, there's resolution in the fact that he ultimately sacrifices himself in the hopes of securing a brighter future for his son.
