10 Big Worries That Could Derail 2015’s Most Hyped Video Games
5. Evolve - Is It Just A Gimmick?
Speaking of micro-transactions as 2015 heats up, if there's one thing that'll instantly draw furious ire from the gaming community, it's designing a game 'with DLC in mind' - something that Turtle Rock's Evolve is reportedly doing more than any other title in recent memory. Micro-transactions are one thing - and the developers have assured fans that all maps and modes are included on-disc - but instead it's the addition of optional monsters and weapon packs that will bulk out the cost. However, aside from all of that, the core game looks to have a structure any other shooter would simply include as one of its other modes, instead of a standalone release - connoting the same level of eyebrow-raising as Battlefield: Hardline. Hands-on previews with the latest builds have realised many of these fears too, as with the game's selling point being a group of soldiers tackling a hulking creature, your options are pretty limited as to any overarching progression. You either take down the beast with your friends or play wreak havoc as it amongst the weaker humans - sure you can spec that out in a number of ways, but with the lack of a campaign and every encounter boiling down to the same basic premise, it's going to struggle to make a mark unless they've really got an ace up their sleeve.
