10 Biggest Consumer Complaints The Gaming Industry Doesn't Want To Fix

3. "Always-Online" DRM Making Games Obsolete

Always-online DRM has ruined way more games than it has had a positive impact on.

What exactly is always-online DRM? It essentially means that games cannot be played without connecting to the internet, which means that without a stable internet connection the game is pretty much worthless.

Developers do this because it means that their games can be constantly updated on the fly and it means that they have a much greater control of the game environment. It makes most sense in multi-player only games, but it has more recently been seen in games like Metal Gear Survive which have a single-player focus too.

The biggest problem is that having always-online DRM in a game pretty much gives it a timer. When the server for that game goes out, the game literally won't be able to be played, or if the player themselves don't have a good connection they might as well not even bother.

All of that risk doesn't seem worth it does it? That's because it's not.
