10 Biggest Consumer Complaints The Gaming Industry Doesn't Want To Fix
2. Forcing Open-Worlds Into Games That Don't Need It
With the open-world genre being as big as it is, it's not a surprise that developers are trying to cram open-worlds into as many games as possible.
Does every game suit it though? It makes sense to make a game bigger and better if it can handle it, but some games are much more suited to linear experiences. Take Dynasty Warriors 9 for example, which was basically completely ruined by having an open-world forced upon it.
If a game has an open-world, it instantly becomes a lot easier to market. Players love big, open experiences and being able to advertise that your game has that means that it's a lot more likely to sell, especially when the open-world genre is the most popular out there.
Even so, it really needs to be kept to games and genres that suit it best, rather than just being slapped on every game and kicked out of the door. Just because it works for Grand Theft Auto, doesn't mean it'll work for everything.
