10 Biggest Video Game Controversies Of 2015

6. Bungie Drops Peter Dinklage From Destiny

Bungie€™s 500 million dollar magnum opus was met with a ton of criticism when it was released in 2014, much of which was aimed at the performance of the usually talented Peter Dinkage as the player€™s Ghost. His voice work has been slammed for sounding bored and wooden, as if Dinklage couldn€™t care less about the work he was doing. However, just as players had started to get used to Dinklage€™s monotone voice whispering in their ears, Bungie made the shocking announcement that, upon the release of The Taken King expansion; ALL of Dinklage€™s performance as the Ghost would be replaced with industry veteran and fan favourite Nolan North. This was a controversial move on Bungie€™s part because, regardless of what you thought about Peter Dinklage€™s voice acting, it felt kind of insulting to erase all his work from the game. Bungie assured fans that it was a pragmatic decision made out of production necessities, as Nolan North would be available more often to record dialogue than Dinklage was. And upon hearing North€™s performance, most agree that he fits the role better than the Game of Thrones actor ever did. Still, it makes you wonder why Bungie bothered hiring Peter Dinklage in the first place if they were only going to end up replacing him anyway. Also, the idea of an entire performance being retroactively erased isn€™t exactly a comforting thought from a purely artistic standpoint. Hopefully, this is not a sign of trends to come.
