10 Biggest Video Game Surprises Of 2019
5. Nintendo Shadow-Drops Indie Hits
The Nintendo Switch has its fair share of classic Independently created titles, see Untitled Goose Game as a perfect example, but it's very rare for Nintendo to release smaller titles, let alone shadow drop them onto an unsuspecting fan base.
The Stretchers is a puzzle/platformer developed by the team behind Little Nightmares. You couldn't get any more opposite in design from that title even if you tried, as here you and a friend play two ambulance officers collecting patients around colourful environments, mimicking the madcap antics of another well loved series in Overcooked in the process.
The game launched with little fanfare back in November, but has since sat comfortably amongst the top charts on Nintendo's eShop. It wasn't the only indie game that Nintendo helped to release this year either, with the equally surprising reveal of Cadence of Hyrule, a mash-up of the Legend of Zelda and Crypt of the Necrodancer franchises.
The fact that they were even willing to shadow drop a new game is almost unheard of. Still, the results do speak for themselves, so perhaps this won't be the last time Nintendo will surprise us with a game we never thought we wanted.
