10 Biggest Video Game Surprises Of 2019
4. Keanu Steals E3
Microsoft needed to come out swinging during E3 2019, not only to ensure their continued climb out of the darkness of the PS4's shadow, but to really give the industry something to think about. It was the first time Sony had ever declined to attend one of the biggest gaming trade shows in its long history, so something had to happen to ensure the Xbox brand could take advantage of that decision.
Part way through the Xbox press event, Cyberpunk 2077 made its re-debut with an action heavy trailer to an audience seemingly lapping it up. Unbeknown to everyone, a certain Hollywood actor was sitting back stage awaiting his grand introduction as the newest character in the game, Johnny Silverhand. The trailer ended, the reveal shocked, and an E3 moment was made.
Keanu Reeves is no stranger to the spotlight, given his recent success in John Wick among a long list of big budget movies on his resume. But there was something truly special about that moment, something that can never be understated.
No doubt Microsoft are more than thankful that they were able to pull it off, and maybe someone at Sony are scrambling to find Hugh Jackman's phone number for next year? Who knows.
