10 Biggest Video Game Surprises Of 2022 (So Far)
5. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
Rumors have been floating around of a remake or possible new entry in the Fire Emblem franchise for some time. That is until the Nintendo Direct in February revealed that the new game was not what the rumors were saying, but instead, a Warriors-style spin-off in the same vein as Fire Emblem Warriors.
Excitement for the game immediately hit a nosedive; however, upon release, it was met with universal praise and held as one of the best Warriors games alongside Hyrule Warriors and Dynasty Warriors 5.
It’s no surprise that the classic hack-and-slash gameplay is just as solid as its always been; what is surprising is that Three Hopes adds many elements from the Fire Emblem series, such as classes and even the calendar system from Three Houses to create one of the most satisfying gameplay loops in both the Fire Emblem and Dynasty Warriors series.
The story also ended up being much better than expected, serving as a what-if? scenario of the original game with a lot of satisfying twists and turns.
While fans are still expecting a new game, suffice to say, Three Hopes surprisingly delivered.
