The titular ringworlds in the Halo series were some of our favourite video game settings, with varied sandbox levels of varying environments to battle the parasitic flood, the alien covenant and the Prometheans. As you unravel the story of these ancient rings, you discover they are so much more than worlds.

The halo installations were originally created by an ancient species known as the Forerunners in order to serve as a last resort in their conflict with the parasitic race, the flood. When fired, the colossal sacred rings would wipe out all sentient beings in the galaxy, meaning the flood would starve without biological hosts to feed on.

They were not only used as weapons however and they also served the purposes of containing and studying life forms, with the specific purpose of observing their ability to be infected by the flood.

As the Master Chief, you are mostly tasked with preventing the fanatical collective of alien races, the covenant from activating the rings and saving the galaxy.

With a network of seven halo rings in the weapon network of varying enormity, this is arguably the biggest weapon in all of gaming history.
