2. The Crucible - Mass Effect
Mass Effect is one of the most beloved works of science fiction in all of media, following protagonist commander Shepard on an epic quest to save the universe from an ancient race of sentient spaceships who are coming to wipe out all organic life.
In a similar fashion to Halo, the key to defeating the reapers lies within a complex device constructed by an ancient alien race known as the Protheans. Playing through the original trilogy, you discover that the space station that is home to the galactic council, the citadel, is actually the key component of the Crucible, the device devised to combat the reaper threat.
Forging partnerships and gathering allies, you guide Shepard and his team through the process of constructing the Crucible, completing the mammoth task just in time as the reapers arise from the dark depths of the universe to begin their genocidal campaign.
Upon activating the Crucible, you are met with an artificial intelligence known as the catalyst who presents three options to the player to conclude the war with the reapers. You can either destroy the reapers and all other synthetics, take control of the reapers and take the place of the catalyst or merge all synthetic and organic life.
