10 Bosses That Stopped Games Being 5 Stars

2. Hoyt - Far Cry 3

Ask any Far Cry devotee to name the preferred games in the series and they’re likely to mention 2012’s Far Cry 3 right away.

A major reason why will be the delightfully unhinged personality and actions of psychopathic villain Vaas Montenegro (played to perfection by Michael Mando). Even Far Cry 3’s marketing positioned him as the lead adversary, so you’d think that he’d be the focus of the concluding faceoff, right?

Well, you’d be wrong, and that’s why this one hurts twice as much as the other entries on this list. Not only is Vaas bested much too soon (and much too easily), but he’s revealed to merely be the lackey of the real primary antagonist: the comparatively disinteresting and nonthreatening drug/slave trader Hoyt Volker.

The anticlimactic battle with him adds salt to the wound because it’s just a brief knife fight enacted as a quick-time event. The poker scene beforehand, as well as Hoyt’s banter with questionable hero Jason Brody, are satisfying, but the mechanics, length, and focus of the duel are a far cry from what they should’ve been.

As amazing as it is, Far Cry 3 definitely suffers a bit from this irritating switcheroo.
