10 Canceled Open-World Games You Wish They Hadn't Killed

9. Warner Bros' Superman

There’s no doubt that barrelling around a huge and vibrant city as the Scarlet Speedster would’ve been a whole lot of fun. Arguably even more enticing, however, is the prospect of flying around said city as Superman.

The Man of Steel had a lot to prove in the world of video games, after all. He was last seen flying through a series of rings in the notoriously crap-tastic Superman 64, which was more Baby’s First Terrible Flight Sim than dramatic superhero adventure.

It really stings, then, that Warner Bros. had a true open-world Superman adventure in the works but had to shelve it. Ideas batted around in 2013 suggested a title that was set in a huge take on Metropolis, with a wide roster of DC’s big bad coming along to tangle with our hero.

Web-swinging around as Spider-Man offers some of the most liberating and enjoyable superhero gaming ever, so imagine how this one would’ve felt if the developers had been able to see it through and do it justice!

To add insult to injury, recently concept art from Rocksteady's pitch for the character was also revealed (pictured above), but sadly WB also passed on that.
