As the years go by, one thing WWE 2K should be looking to avoid at all costs is the major flaw of most sports-based video games: repetitiveness.

Detractors of modern sports games would argue that each new release is nothing more than a roster update with minor graphic increases. This has also been the case for WWE games at times, with fans left clamoring for new features each year. With the return of MyGM Mode and the introduction of The Island, that was somewhat accomplished in WWE 2K24 and WWE 2K25, but there is more work to be done.

One game mode that Major League Baseball’s The Show franchise gets right every year is Road to the Show. This allows players to create their own character, go through high school, college, the MLB Draft, and the various minor league levels before making it to the majors. Road to the Show is a grind, requiring players to go through long stretches of each level before being promoted to the next.

This could be the perfect move for WWE 2K, with a similar path for hopeful wrestlers. Being able to create a wrestler and taking them through wrestling school, the independent scene, before NXT and the main roster could be a comparable fun grind. Road to the Show also allows players to change their teams and positions at times, similar to the various career moves wrestlers make, like gimmick and heel or face turns. While not a perfect comparison, WWE developing a similar game mode could be exactly what the franchise needs.
