10 Classic Video Games Clocked In Ridiculous Speed-Runs
6. Sonic
The Sega mascot is world renowned for his eye-blinding speed so it's not surprising that a speed run for the blue hedgehog has been beaten on several occasions over the years. The sprinting platformer consists of an impressive 19 levels although most of them can be finished in under a minute if you're not the collecting or exploring type. Speedrunner Charles Griffin holds the current record that comes in at a shocking 15mins 5secs on the Genesis (Megadrive) on 1st August 2008. A fantastic run time for one of the most beloved games of all time, Charles dedicated a month of level and glitch learning to succeed in his world record attempt. The time was completed playing the Sonic Mega Collection on the GameCube using an analogue stick. Charles swears he can finish it in a much quicker time, but will not bother doing so unless a speed-running rival out paces his own, with nobody yet stepping up to the challenge. The original Sonic on the Master System has an even quicker time of 11mins 8secs by Mike 'mike89' McKenzie which was registered on 29th June 2009.
