10 Comics & Novels That Answer MAJOR Video Game Plot Points
6. Sonic 2 - What Was That Purple Stuff In Chemical Plant Zone?
If you've ever played Sonic 2, you've felt The Fear.
As the dreaded drowning music begins to play, you frantically scramble up moving blocks to get that precious breath of air. If you've ever played Sonic 2, you've probably also failed to do this and drowned in the mysterious purple ooze that is left to run amok in the Chemical Plant Zone.
But did you know that the actual lore behind this deadly pink ooze has been expanded? It even has a name - Mega Mack!
First mentioned in the Western release of Sonic 2 inside the game manual, Mega Mack is a toxic substance that inhabits the Chemical Plant Zone. But what you no doubt didn't know that in Sonic the Comic (which was the best thing to read growing up, incidentally) the history behind Mega Mack, and it's intended purpose, are revealed.
Mega Mack was originally created by Doctor Robotnik and an unnamed scientist helper with the purpose of killing Sonic.
However, as with most of Robotnik's plans, things go horribly wrong; the unnamed scientist is seemingly killed by the Mega Mack and ultimately bonds with it, creating a monstrous new creature - Megatox.
