This is the most recent and current event on the list but its definitely one of the most pertinent. For whatever reason Google - who own Youtube and is now deathly afraid of getting sued over music has implemented a content ID match algorithm to flag videos that potentially may be using copyrighted material. Its definitely understandable because there are people who will upload entire movies and albums to view for free. Their system is completely flawed though and is single-handedly anchoring down a sub-community of gamers that love sharing their experiences on Youtube; whether its through a Lets Play featuring commentary, speed-runs and other perfectionist challenges, video reviews, and a myriad of other creative outputs. These videos are getting flagged, blocked, and in some situations receiving copyright strikes. If you do a simple search through Twitter or Google however, video game developers are actually against this and upset at the Youtube change, and that's not just the independent developers who greatly benefit from exposure either but AAA blockbuster studios such as Naughty Dog and Blizzard too. Whats even more jarring is that some of the strangest things are being detected as copyrighted by the system is ranging from hand drawn pictures of Dragon Ball Z characters to Angry Joes interview with the developers of Tomb Raider. Most recently, an independent developer was punished for uploading footage of a game he created himself. Without even getting into the fact that some people have turned this into a legitimate career and monetize videos, this system needs to be kicked to the curb simply because it doesnt work and is stifling entertaining Youtube content. Neither gamers nor developers asked for this.
