7. Mass Effects Sex Simulation

Cut to 2007 and gamings storytelling abilities had moved on considerably, especially with what was to come in Biowares epic sci-fi trilogy Mass Effect, the first instalment of which was a crowning achievement for the medium, providing a fully interactive gameworld with branching conversation options, full facial customisation and a battle system that had as much variety as a Swiss Army knife. Could the mainstream press recognise such a thing? Nope, instead Fox News chose to lambaste the games fleeting sex scenes, something that takes up about 5% of the actual game, in fact although the ill-informed newscasters sought to say the game was marketed to kids and teenagers, EA were forced to write a rebuttal detailing just how out of hand the reports had gotten. EAs Jeff Brown royally slated the factual inaccuracies (of which there were many) in his statement (

Had you believed the endless hyperbolic stream of fatuous nonsense Fox News were churning out, youd be forgiven for thinking Mass Effect was nothing short of a porn site with a controller plugged in. Instead however, it remains one of the greatest sci-fi franchises of all time.
